Workshop Instructor Bios

writing workshop instructor deborah carrDeborah Carr has been a full time professional freelance writer since 1999, with over a hundred articles published in newspapers, magazines and other special publications. Her genre is creative non-fiction and her specialties are conservation and nature, people profiles and travel destinations.

Before shifting her career to writing, she spent 17 years in the federal government, where she created and delivered a variety of instructional courses. She is well-accustomed to the woes and wiles of corporate-speak and is, consequently, a relentless supporter of Plain Everyday English. She brings to the classroom the depth of her own experience unearthing the roots of everyday life, finding relevance in the mundane, crafting the story, then getting and keeping her words in print.

She was a finalist in the best profile category of the 2007 Atlantic Journalism Awards and is currently writing a biographical book on naturalist and conservationist, Mary Majka, to be published by Goose Lane Publications in Fall 2010.

Deborah shares her golden retriever's philosophy: the best way to truly savour life is to get down and roll in it.

Tammy Carlin, is a certified Kripalu Yoga instructor (and a certified accountant by day).  Her quiet, gentle nature has made her yoga classes very popular in the Albert County area.  She joins Deborah for the Write from the Soul workshop in order to guide participants through simple yoga techniques that help centre the mind, focus and enliven the thought processes.
