Throughout the years, as the turbulent waters of Crooked Creek tumbled down from the Caledonia Highlands during the spring rushets, they carved a magnificent ravine that serves as one of the backdrops to the sleepy village of Riverside-Albert.

Against the setting sun Caledonia Mountain stands, once part of a mountainous chain older than both the Western Rockies and the Eastern Appalachians.

Once named Hopewell Corner, the village was a thriving shipbuilding center and the terminus of the Albert Railroad.  Travel a kilometer or two along Route 915 to the Mary's Point Road then turn left to visit the Harvey Bank Shipyard Park, a memorial to this shipbuilding history.  There, you will see a replica of the Revolving Light, the first ship constructed here.  It has a fascinating story of serendipity with a present day twist of fate.

Today, Riverside-Albert is more highly appreciated for the beautiful homes and buildings of historic architecture located along sedate and shaded streets.

Riverside Consolidated SchoolBuilt in 1905, one the most distinctive structures is the Riverside Consolidated School,  Canada's oldest consolidated school, still in use.  It's commanding presence draws the eye as travellers drive through the village.

Another landmark is the Old Scotia Bank, now a museum and tourist information centre, located at the crossroads of Route 114 and 915.

Nearby, the Crooked Creek Lookout affords spectacular views of the Crooked Creek gorge, especially during the fall foliage season.  This trail connects by roadway with 14 km of the NB Trail system, part of the Trans-Canada Trail.

Two of Albert County's historic covered bridges are in Riverside-Albert.  One crosses Crooked Creek and the other crosses Sawmill Creek and is located alongside Route 114, on the NB Trail....it is the only covered bridge along the famous Canadian trail system.
